Dog Photographers in Australia
Australia has an incredible community of talented dog photographers capturing the bond between people and their dogs. From coastal adventures and bushland portraits to artistic fine art images, dog photography has become increasingly popular across the country.
Professional dog photographers do much more than simply take photos. They understand dog behaviour, choose safe locations, and create images that capture each dog’s personality and connection with their human.
If you are looking for a dog photographer in Australia, there are some fantastic artists to choose from across the country.
Travelling Dog Photography Sessions Across Australia by myself - Haggie Snaps Photography
One thing many dog owners don’t realise is that dog photographers often travel.
I regularly photograph dogs across Australia and fly to major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and hopefully next year - Adelaide.
These trips allow dog owners that aren't in Perth to still book a session with me whenever I fly over. As Perth is remote to all the other cities of Australia, I will have to be fully booked to make the trip. So if you are interested in a future session, you can put your name down for it and tell me a bit about your dog(s) below!
If you’d like to know when I will be visiting your city and have first dibs when bookings open, you can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be notified when sessions open near you:
If you're from Perth and would love to book a session with me you can find all information here.
But now let’s take a look at some talented dog photographers operating in Australia. I have organised them by state, so you can find the ones that are near you, or travel to your city frequently.
The Gumtree Studios
The Gumtree Studios is a pet photography studio based in regional Victoria that focuses on creating emotional, story-driven portraits of dogs and their people.
Their work centres around capturing the connection between humans and their dogs rather than simply photographing the dog alone. This approach allows sessions to feel more natural and relaxed, resulting in images that highlight the relationship and personality behind each photograph.
The studio is based in Bendigo but works with dog owners across Victoria and surrounding regions. Outdoor sessions often make use of natural landscapes and soft natural light to create dramatic yet authentic portraits.
Their photography style leans toward storytelling and fine art pet photography, where each session aims to capture meaningful moments between dogs and their humans.
Malone Photography
Malone Photography is run by Melbourne-based dog photographer Anthea, who photographs dogs throughout Melbourne and the Yarra Ranges. Many of her sessions take place in quiet, natural environments where dogs can feel comfortable and relaxed, specialising in outdoor dog portraits and working with dogs of all personalities.
The photographer behind Malone Photography, Anthea, developed her approach through her experience with her own reactive rescue dog.
Sessions are intentionally held in very calm locations so these dogs have the space they need to settle, open up and show the personality their families know and love, the side of them the public does not always get to see.
With a background in dog training and ongoing work as the training director of a GRC Dog Sports club in Melbourne, Anthea brings a deep understanding of dog behaviour into every session.
Her journey into photographing reactive dogs began with her own dog, Bones Malone, who the business is named after. Living with a reactive dog helped her understand just how meaningful it can be to take a dog to places that once felt impossible, and that experience now shapes the way she approaches sessions with her clients.
Much of Anthea’s work focuses on creating printed artwork rather than simply delivering digital files. The goal is to create lasting tributes to the dogs who share our lives for far too short a time. Many of her images showcase natural environments because many of her clients love spending time outdoors with their dogs, although she would also love to photograph more dogs in Melbourne’s CBD, where the city offers some fantastic creative opportunities.
Botanical Pawtraits
Botanical Pawtraits is run by pet photographer Jasmine, who creates soulful and nature-inspired portraits that celebrate the personality of each dog and the connection they share with their people. Based in South East Queensland, Jasmine often photographs dogs in beautiful outdoor environments such as forests, beaches and natural landscapes where dogs can explore freely and simply be themselves.
Instead of working from one fixed studio, Botanical Pawtraits travels to carefully selected outdoor locations that offer beautiful natural light and environments where dogs can simply be themselves.
Her work is inspired by her own Australian Shepherd, Fern, who first sparked her passion for photographing dogs while exploring nature together. Sessions range from relaxed portrait experiences to longer adventure-style shoots that capture a dog’s personality, movement and connection with their owner.
In addition to individual dog sessions, the photographer also works with pet brands to create authentic lifestyle and product imagery using real dogs in natural settings.
Supporting Dog Photographers in Australia
Professional dog photography is a specialised niche that requires patience, animal knowledge as well as technical photography skills. Many photographers spend years learning how to work with dogs safely while creating artwork that truly reflects their personality.
Supporting small photography businesses in Australia helps keep this creative industry thriving and allows dog owners to preserve meaningful memories with their companions.
Australia has a growing community of talented dog photographers and whether you are looking for dramatic adventure portraits, relaxed outdoor sessions or artistic fine art images, there is a photographer whose style will suit you.
